The Epit 2.0 project, led by France Télécom, aims to provide an open platform and middleware for the creation of connected urban services (automated public lighting, water, gas, and electricity control, parking management, pollution measurement, etc.). The Senscity project emerged from the observation that M2M services in cities are too fragmented due to a purely vertical approach (end-to-end dedicated infrastructure). Senscity aimed at building common blocks for the sensor/actuator network, based on open and possibly standardized protocols, and to provide a common collection platform for M2M services. From this perspective, the project is clearly a success – as demonstrated by the creation of M2OCity by Orange and Veolia Water.
